FREE Developmental Screenings
Screenings
The Indian River School District conducts free developmental screenings for children aged 3-5. The screening helps to determine whether a child has a potential delay as compared to others of the same age group. Children are screened in the areas of motor skills, basic concepts, and language development. Further evaluation will be discussed with those families of children that exhibit delays on the screening. This screening process is called CHILD FIND.

About CHILD FIND
Child Find is part of Delaware's system for identifying children suspected of having a delay in development. If a young child is not meeting typical developmental milestones, or someone is concerned about the child’s growth or learning, child find teams will evaluate how the child plays, learns, speaks, behaves and moves. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine if there is a significant delay or if there is a need for early intervention or special education services. Evaluations conducted by Child Find teams are at no cost to parents.

Referrals
Children who are not yet in Kindergarten may be referred at any time when a family member, doctor or child care provider has a concern about their development.
Ages & Stages Questionnaires-3
ASQ-3 screens and assesses the developmental performance of children in the areas of communication, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, problem solving, and personal-social skills. It is used to identify children that would benefit from in-depth evaluation for developmental delays.
Ages & Stages: Social Emotional Developmental Screening
ASQ:SE-2 is a set of questionnaires about children’s social-emotional development from 6 to 60 months which can be self-administered by parents/caregivers. Doing this screening provides a quick look at how children are doing in important areas, such as self-regulation, communication, autonomy, compliance, adaptive functioning, affect, and interaction with people.
